Wireless Vs Bluetooth Telephone Headsets - Which Is Better?

Wireless DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) headsets and Bluetooth headsets have many similarities. Both allow you to move around your office without being tethered to your desk and both talk to base cradles. Most confusing is both wireless and Bluetooth headsets are often referred to as "cordless" or "wireless"!
Wireless and Bluetooth headsets also have some significant differences. These differences do not make one better than the other but may make one type of headset better for your particular situation or office environment. The Differences
The first difference to consider is RANGE. A Wireless headset has a range of 100 metres. These distances are influenced by your office environment. Your walls (and what they are made out of) may reduce the actual range that you can achieve. The next major difference is CONNECTIVITY. You can purchase mechanical handset lifters for all Bluetooth and wireless headsets. Many headset manufacturers even have Electronic Hook Switch (EHS) cables for some phones. Both of these technologies allow you to answer telephone calls while you are away from your desk. Handset lifters are fitted on your telephone underneath the handset and the EHS cables are plugged in to your telephone.
When your phone rings your headset beeps at you. Simply pressing a button on your headset causes the handset lifter to rise which in turn causes the handset to rise and allows you to talk with the caller. You press the button again at the end of the call and the handset lifter lowers the handset back onto the telephone hanging up the call.
A lifter for a wireless headset will work with the same brand of Bluetooth headset. This means it can be re-used if you happen to change cordless headset types.
Troubleshooting
In the "bad old days" there were some problems with both Bluetooth and wireless headsets but these issues have long since been resolved. These days if you choose a quality brand such as Plantronics, Sennheiser or Jabra you will find that any of their wireless or Bluetooth headsets will be very reliable.
The most common problem that occurs now with both Bluetooth and wireless headset models is "loss of pairing". This is where the headset top stops communicating with the base unit. In my experience this issue normally only occurs if the base unit loses power while the headset is not in its cradle which is quite rare. When this does happen you cannot use your headset until the problem is fixed which can be very annoying! The problem can be easily resolved so there's no need to stress. You simply need to make sure that the headset is charged then re-establish the pairing (connectivity).
The pairing procedure is different for each headset model. If you can't find the pairing instructions that came with your headset at the time of purchase you should be able to obtain a copy of the document from your headset supplier or from the manufacturer's web site. Normally the pairing process involves a few simple steps such as rebooting the base unit then holding down a button or series of buttons for several seconds until the status lights shows the 2 parts are paired ("talking") again. Normally the entire procedure should be completed within one minute and you will be back in action!
Conclusion
Don't think of wireless and Bluetooth as competing technologies. Just look at your own situation and environment and choose the technology that works best for you. If you will be a long distance from your workstation whilst talking on your headset then you need a DECT wireless headset. If you will always be within 10 metres of your workstation and you have more than one Bluetooth device that you want to connect your headset to (e.g. laptop or mobile) then choose a Bluetooth headset. Troubleshooting HID Lamps

So you're cruising along lighting up the pavement with your (hopefully!) well-focused HID lights and some fault comes along with the lights that totally put a damper on your evening. There are many things that can go wrong with an HID system, from not lighting up at all to flickering to fuses blowing out. Not all HID conversion systems are built to the same standards as OEM lights, and as with most things, you get what you pay for. Sometimes, even with the best equipment, sloppy installation practices and/or extreme environmental conditions combine to ruin that nice HID glow.
Many car enthusiasts who would have no problem replacing injectors or installing a turbo simply tear out their hair when asked to diagnose electrical faults. The wires go through unseeable nooks and crannies or some components work well at startup but fail after 15 minutes of running. There are many possible causes of failure in an electrical system. They can be from heat, moisture, corrosion or vibration. Luckily, wire insulation does not degrade for a long time so that is one thing we don't have to worry about - unless you're restoring a decades-old car and you haven't replaced the wiring harness. What this all means is that when electrical failures occur, you just need to check the connections or the components themselves, and not the wires on the harness.
When an HID lighting system becomes inoperative, a simple check of the power switches, the connectors and splices or a visual check of the lamp itself is enough to diagnose the cause of the problem. Through environmental factors or plain poor workmanship, connections and splices may have gotten loose or corroded, which would result in intermittent faults or failure to operate. Bulbs at the end of their life are characterized by low light output and/or intermittent starting. Visual checks may show discoloration at the ends of the arc tube or deterioration of the electrode tip. As a quick check, you may try swapping the headlight bulbs if one side is acting up. If it lights up, then you know that it was the bulb that was at fault. If it doesn't, however, then the HID componentry is suspect. Check the ballast for signs of overheating such as bulging or discoloration. If everything still seems normal, then checking for line voltage and resistance is in order. This procedure may require a visit to your installer or electrician if you don't know your way around a multimeter.
The message here is if you install HID lighting, ensure that the installation is correct from the start. Check for proper routing so the wires don't chafe and insist of soldered splices. Then weatherproof the splices so that water splashes, oils and detergents don't prematurely degrade the connections. With these simple procedures, you can be assured of a more reliable experience for your upgrade.

HDMI To DVI Cable Compatibility

Nearly every high definition TV that you find on the market today comes standard with an HDMI or High Definition Multimedia interface port. However, there are still numerous devices out there that use a DVI or Digital Visual Interface. Whenever this is the case, you need to find a way to connect your devices so that they are HDMI and DVI compatible. DVI and HDMI both use digital information which has replaced the analog format. As a result, no media conversion is required and all that is required is an HDMI to DVI cable.
For a brief period during the computer era and within the world of technology, the DVI cable was the industry standard having replaced the older, out-dated VGA or Video Graphics Array technology. With the advent of LCD and plasma television, the DVI connection was still the standard, but there was a major drawback in that it only handled video. So you had to use a separate cable in order to connect the audio. The HDMI to DVI cable eliminated the need for an audio cable.
As HDMI technology overtook DVI technology, it provided video transferring and the audio capabilities that DVI did not. In order to connect the newer technology with the older, the HDMI to DVI cable became a necessary accessory. The HDMI is a vast improvement over the older DVI technology because it has a much larger bandwidth and is capable of handling speeds in excess of 10 gigabits per second. For the sake of knowledge, that is twice as much bandwidth as what is normally required for HD audio and video.
Additionally, the manufacturers of Blu-Ray players, digital cameras, game consoles, and smart phones have now included the HDMI to DVI cable compatibility with many of these products. The cable allows you to connect HDMI ports with DVI ports and it has been recommended that since so many devices now use HDMI technology that you purchase one of these cables to have as a spare in case the need arises.
Finally, and in addition to the connection compatibilities provided by an HDMI to DVI cable, it may still be necessary to have an audio cable along with your DVI cable in order to hear the audio signal. Although this particular type of cable can be somewhat pricey when you purchase them from an electronics retailer, you can save a considerable amount of money and time if you purchase the cable online.

HID Lighting Basics - Why HID Is Better Than Incandescent Lighting

When man invents new things that make his life better, we know he is only headed for a brighter future. The invention of high intensity discharge or HID lighting is an example that shows just how far he has come from the time incandescent or fluorescent bulbs were created. For home or business use, HID lights have proven to be far more efficient than any other type of lighting invented in history. So what makes HID technology deserve all of these raves from consumers? There are a number of things, but its most important advantage is cost and energy efficiency. To get an incandescent bulb to work, electric energy has to be supplied to a tungsten filament inside the bulb so that it is heated enough to glow and provide illumination. Among HID bulbs, there are three choices for the consumer - mercury vapor, metal halide and high-pressure sodium. The most efficient of these three is high-pressure sodium, which gives more of a yellowish light, followed by metal halide, whose emission closely resembles natural light and then mercury vapor which is the least efficient among the three.

Best Bluetooth Speakers in 2011 s

Another year, and another range of speakers released by a slew of manufacturers. But there's a difference this year: namely, the extensive line up of bluetooth speakers. While true audiophiles will probably shriek in horror at the mere mention of wireless speakers (wires, after all, do deliver better performance, even if you can't spot it), for most consumers, these wireless speakers - particularly bluetooth speakers - are more than good enough to replace the old, cumbersome, wired lot. Add to that the ubiquity of iPhones and iPod Touches, and you can see the appeal in bluetooth speakers: they are easy to use, affordable, compact, and deliver a decent overall performance without any of the nasty bits (read: wires, hefty power bricks, etc.).
So, which are the best Bluetoot speakers for 2011?
If I had to pick out one set of speakers that stand out for their versitility, I would probably choose the Creative D100 and its elder sibling, the D200. These two speakers do everything right for me: deliver a good performance, aren't too expensive (I say this after burning thousands of dollars on various speaker sets), and look good. But for the sake of this article, I will list out the four best Bluetooth speakers in 2011:
1. Creative D100 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
As I've mentioned above, this speaker set does a lot of things right: good looks (it comes in five different colors, though I prefer the default black), delivers a more than adequate performance, is small and easy to carry, works on AA batteries, and won't burn a hole in your wallet.
But it isn't a perfect speaker. Not by a long stretch (for that, I would probably look at Klipsch or Bose). The low end lacks a bit of punch, and if you turn up the volume, there is distortion. I assume, however, that you won't be using the Creative D100 to power your next house party. For every other purpose, this is a great, dependable speaker.
Pros: compact design, affordable, aesthetically pleasing, strong overall performance.
Cons: Bass sounds a bit weak; distortions at high volume
2. Monster ClarityHD Precision Micro Bluetooth Speaker
With this speaker, there was love at first sight. How can you not fall for this tiny package bursting with features and power? It is no bigger than an iPhone in length, and yet, can set the house on fire with its sound. I've seen speakers that weight 10 lbs that don't perform as good.
Compact design notwithstanding, the Monster ClarityHD is a very well rounded speaker that works seamlessly with any Bluetooth device. Your iPhone or iPodTouch will recognize it instantly and stream all music through it. The audio quality is amazing for such a small speaker - clear, strong mid and high tones, little distortion, even at high volumes. If you listen to music largely through your smartphone (Android/iPhone/Blackberry) or iPod Touch, this speaker is the perfect choice.
Pros: Extremely compact design, clear, strong playback, decent range.
Cons: As with all small speakers, lacks strong low tones. Volume output is somewhat low.
3. Altec Lansing inMotion Soundblade Bluetooth Speaker
Finally, a speaker that dispels the myth that Bluetooth speakers are only good for casual users. It costs a pretty penny, but turn it on, and you will get crystal clear sound with amazing bass (thanks to SRS TruBass technology) that will blow your socks off. It looks classy, is just an inch thick, and even includes an in-built microphone to act as a speakerphone.
Being a modern Bluetooth device, the Altec Lansing inMotion is a breeze to setup. You can go from opening the package to streaming music through your iPhone in as little as 60 seconds. The performance is, quite frankly, mindblowing. It delivers sound that can compete with a $400 Bose system, and for all practical purposes, it is more than adequate for some heavy use, both in the house and beyond.
The only downside that I can think of (which has made me rank it here at no.3) is the price. At $199.99, it costs as much as a new Netbook computer. But if you care about quality, you will love the Altec Lansing Soundblade.
Pros: Excellent audio quality, aesthetically pleasing, just an inch thick, strong bass and clear high tones. Probably the best Bluetooth speaker around.
Cons: Expensive
4. SuperTooth Disco Bluetooth Speaker
It looks like a brick, is almost a footlong, and doesn't quite have the pedigree of an Altec Lansing behind it. But turn it on, and the SuperTooth Disco can give even a $300 Klipsch speaker a run for its money. The audio is surprisingly clear with strong volume output. Pairing it with a Bluetooth device is a matter of seconds, and it has a great Bluetooth range to boot.
On the downside, the large size makes it a bit difficult to carry around. While the Monster ClarityHD can be dropped into a handbag, the SuperTooth Disco does lack a bit of teeth in the portability department. But if you want to use it primarily indoors, you will be very happy with the performance.
Pros: Strong performance, good Bluetooth range
Cons: Big and unwieldy design
